War Games in the Gulf of Oman - Arabian Shark 12, the latest in a regular series of anti-submarine exercises held in the Middle East region for the past decade included warships from the USA, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.   The Royal Navy participated in this exercise held in the Gulf of Oman with the Fleet Submarine TRIUMPH and the Type 23 Frigate WESTMINSTER committed to the exercise.   The WESTMINSTER is roughly half way through the current East of Suez patrol has what is described as the best submarine-hunting helicopter in the world embarked (a 829 Squadron MERLIN HMA1) matched by the world’s best submarine-hunting sonar (the Type 2087 fitted on WESTMINSTER).   The WESTMINSTER is due back in the UK in August (2012).  For the TRIUMPH who knows as the usual security on vessel's movements of this class apply.
