Brunei Visitors

Brunei Visitors – the “British” Garrison at the Far Eastern State of Brunei (the other side of Singapore for the geographically forgetful) totals approximately 900 personnel made up of a HQ Brunei Garrison, a resident infantry battalion (currently the 2nd Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles), plus 7 Flight, Army Air Corps, the Brunei Police Unit and the Jungle Warfare Training School.

It comes as a surprise therefore to find that Brunei was the venue for a strange meeting of foreign warships namely the Military Sealift Command Lewis and Clark Class Dry Cargo Ship USNS MATTHEW PERRY and the Hospital Ship PEACE ARK of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy.

The visit to Brunei Darussalam by the USNS MATTHEW PERRY and PEACE ARK aimed at contributing to the regional cooperation in non-traditional security, and also at promoting friendship among the ASEAN nations which comprise :  South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia and Laos.
